Walking Treadmill

Many walking treadmills on the market are not designed especially for senior people. There’re several points need to consider before choose a fitness treadmill for elderly people.

  1. Choose a motorized jogging treadmill other than a manual one
  • Senior people have joint problem of varying severity. It’s better to avoid manual one as it’s more demanding on knees. Manual home treadmill has an incline and it’s harder on joints.
  1. Check the walking treadmill motor and user weight
  • Most walking treadmills have motors from 1.0 HP to 3.0 HP. If your weight is less than 200 pounds, look for a jogging treadmill with at least a 2.0 HP motor. If you weigh more, look for at least 2.5 HP and check the user weight limit listed for that model.
  1. Speed and incline level
  • For senior people, it’s recommended to walk or stroll instead of running. So if you don’t expect to run in high speed and incline level, no need to choose those walking treadmills with high speed range and incline. Besides, it also cost higher than low speed one.
  1. Choose a jogging treadmill with longer handlebar
  • The handlebar is a necessary and safe assistance for senior people. Avoid choosing those fully foldable home treadmills which have no handlebars. Those pad treadmill is mainly for young people and require higher balanced capacity.
